Independence Day

I'm a little behind in posting! On the Fourth of July, now a week ago, we had a few families over for a barbecue.

We were hoping to do and see fireworks but they were banned in our city after the fires down South. The kids made their own fun though.

And the grownups did too.

Happy Birthday America!

The Third of July

The day before the Fourth of July was almost as exciting as the day itself.

It started with this...

And then this...

And finally this...

Yes, we have had to talk about how far we are allowed to climb!!!

The girls play on it every.single.day.

We can't wait to see all the grandchildren on it in the next few years!

Max's Baptism

Last weekend we took a quick trip to California fro Max's baptism! We left early Saturday morning and got into town around 11:00. We made a stop at In n Out (a must every time we go to California). We then drove around for a while so the girls could take naps. After quickly checking into our hotel we were off for the 2:00 ceremony.

The church was Polish, but the priest did the entire thing in English so our side of the family would understand.
He loved his baptism!!

At the end they recited some prayers in Polish. It is great that Max will grow up bilingual!

Afterward we went to a Mexican restaurant for a delicious buffet.

The next day we had breakfast with Becky, Arek and Max and then hung out at the pool until 1:00 or so. After lunch, we drove around again so the girls could sleep as our plane wasn't getting into Denver until 10:30 P.M.

For such a quick turnaround, it was a surprisingly relaxing weekend. Must have been all that driving around doing nothing!

Free Night

Every first Tuesday is free night at the Denver Children's Museum. It doesn't matter what our finances are, I love free stuff! So we go once or twice year with lots and lots of other people. Dan was coming home early from work to level the ground for the playset to be delivered the next morning. So he was grateful that I removed the girls from the premises and out of his hair!

The museum was the most crowded I have seen it yet. But we played in the indoor play area.

And we had fun with bubbles.

The girls "shopped" in the grocery store. That is one hilarious place! There is no comparison shopping going on here. All the kids throw items in their carts and baskets as fast as they can and run to the checkout, empty their carts, and run back to do it all again!

We stopped by the real life fire engine for a quick test drive.

On the way out there was a water exhibit with a really long line. We started to wait in line but then I noticed in the distance that there were people getting on a trolley. I never noticed that before! So we headed over there and took a little trip on the Platte River Trolley.

After the trolley, we played on the outdoor playground for a few minutes and then headed home. The girls didn't get to bed until 9:30, really really late for them. But Dan got all the ground leveled, with the help of a neighbor, and our playset went in the next day.

I'm Sad

I haven't felt like blogging a whole lot this week. Dan and I have never met another couple doing what we are doing, adopting small children when our own bio kids are older. But there are others out there. I know them from their blogs. There is one I have been reading for a couple of years. They have adopted five Chinese children with special needs. One just passed away. It broke my heart. I have prayed for her, taken her picture with me to a healing service and Dan and I have even donated money for her medical expenses. So I am in a way in mourning for a little girl I've never met, with a mom I've only talked to through a couple of emails, in a city 2000 miles away. But this family has inspired our journey so we feel a tiny fraction of the pain they are going through. If you want to read about their little Teresa, you can here.

Hot Summer

It has been HOT here in Colorado. This is the hottest June that I can remember, days and days in the 90's. We have been going to the swimming pool, parks with splash areas and even our own sprinklers.

We have decided that for the summer we are going to take the girls swimming after dinner on Friday nights. We hope it will be a fun tradition. Of course that means we have to actually have the energy at the end of the week to do it! And with a 2 and 4 year old they don't know it's Friday night and technically we can get away with not doing it. Umm...I'll keep you posted...
