Europe 2024 - Prague!

From London we hopped on a flight to Prague. We checked into our airbnb and walked to a cafe for some food. As opposed to London, and even Paris, nothing is in English here. The lady running this cafe spoke English however!

Home of the pilsner!

Our rental had kestrel babies in the flower box outside the kitchen window.

Dar, Sean, Donna and Mike joined us at the airbnb and Beth's was right around the corner!

Day 2:  Before heading to Prague castle, we stopped and got some pastries, or already made hot dogs??, for breakfast at a mini store since the cafe didn't open until 9:00.

Cobblestone streets everywhere in Prague!

The castle was as truly amazing as everyone says!

It had the most beautiful stained glass I've ever seen. Each window set was very different from the next.

Lots of beautiful doors and wood carvings.

Every castle had a torture room.

There was a magnificant view of the city from the castle.

From the castle we went to a Lego museum.

Next was lunch at a restaurant that brings your food and drinks on a train! Chase was in 7th heaven!

After lunch we made our way across the fabulous Saint Charles Bridge.

There were several grandiose statues along the bridge.

That night six of us decided to go on what we thought was a ghost tour, but ended up being an underground tour. Still very interesting, but not scary. But before the tour, we had a drink in the square and watched the famous clock tick 7:00. On the hour a little skeleton comes out and dances.

The reason there are so many underground spaces in Prague is because centuries ago a trench was built around the town to prevent flooding. The dirt from the trench was distributed in the low spots of the town, turning first floor rooms into basements.

Homes had several ways to kill intruders, or at least escape from them: Holes cut in the walls for a knife to stab someone or a bow to shoot an arrow through, this bar to keep invaders from passing through the doorway. Doesn't sound like a pleasant way to live.

Many many buildings in Prague are quite ornate.

Some funny signs at a pub, in English!

We made the most of our one full day in Prague. Up next, Poland!
